Throughout the Fall Camp, Head Coach Clarence McKinney emphasized competition. It's no surprise that the puzzle pieces for Texas Southern University are slowly but surely falling into place. Head Coach Mckinney is a recruiting master, and the time has come for him to reap the rewards of his work. With players like Michael Badejo, Joshua Murray, Demontario Anderson, Ke'lenn Davis, Jonathan Giles, Andrew Body, Julian Marcantel, and many others they are poised to prove the doubters wrong.
According to preseason polls, the Texas Southern football team is predicted to finish dead last in the SWAC West division. If this isn't motivation, I'm not sure what is. The truth is that the only way for this football team is up, and judging by the enthusiasm during this year's Fall Camp, they are ready to take the next step toward a good season. As a result of Covid-19's tremendous impact on the sports world, SWAC teams were offered the option to compete in the Spring 2021 season to make up for the previous missed 2020 campaign. The TSU football team's spring season did not proceed as planned, with the team only playing in two games. For lack of a better term, the 2021 spring season essentially acted as a preseason, pointing out a number of issues that needed to be addressed before the fall 2021 season.
With the addition of new coaches, new players, and a fresh mentality, things appear to be looking up for this squad this season. Since his arrival on the Texas Southern campus, Head Coach Mckinney has taken pride in developing a product on the football field that everyone will love. What better way to start a successful season than by defeating in-state rivals Prairie View A&M in the Labor Day Classic? The TSU football team only lost by one point to Prairie View during the spring season, so this matchup on Saturday will be must-see TV.
