More Than A Game

This season's NFL playoffs were filled with exciting matchups and spectacular plays that left fans in awe. As the dust has settled, we now have two teams that will compete in the Super Bowl, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs. Approximately two weeks remain until these two great teams face off against each other in this year's Super Bowl, and fans and analysts alike are already raving about how this will be a memorable game. Several predictions have been made regarding who will win this game, but before the outcome is determined, we must take the time to honor the two quarterbacks who are going to square off in the game. As fans, we are often so excited about the game that we fail to notice certain aspects that should not be overlooked. In light of this, it should be noted that when Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes II battle it out in this year's Super Bowl, it will mark the first time that two African American quarterbacks will face off in a Super Bowl.

Since 1920, the National Football League has had its fair share of notable and talented African American quaterback. As a point of reference, for years, there were unjust stereotypes placed against African American quarterbacks, one of them being that African American quarterbacks aren't intelligent enough for the position. The evolution of the African American quarterback was not hindered or deterred by negative or stereotypical attitudes. In fact, now we can observe that the NFL has adapted to the suitability of the QBS they once derided. There is no doubt that this game between the Eagles and Chiefs is about much more than a football game. In fact, this game signifies the arrival of African American quarterbacks who do not appear to be vanishing any time soon.
