The Start Of Something Great

People sometimes fail to recognize the effort and devotion required to achieve success. Texas Southern University sophomore linebacker Jacob Williams presently ranks fourth in the South Western Conference in tackles with 37. This incredible achievement by this talented football player may be overlooked by someone looking from the outside in. But what if I told you that Jacob played defensive end and tight end at Hightower High School before arriving at TSU? This transition is not simple by any stretch of the imagination since you need to master new techniques. This challenge, however, wasn't too challenging for Jacob, who researched and learned every facet of the linebacker position in order to not only become efficient but also contribute to the TSU defense.

Jacob has been a breath of fresh air in a linebacker room that has lost a lot of upperclassmen from the previous season. Jacob's ability to play sideline to sideline is a very important and critical component of this defense. His ability to immediately react and recognize plays, and then be quick enough to get into a position to make a tackle, sack or defensive effort is what makes him so remarkable. TSU linebacker Coach Derrick Mathews continuously emphasized over the off-season and summer camp about knowing your assignment, being disciplined, and making plays. Jacob and his teammates, Tarik Cooper and Keshon Spraggins, operate well together and play off each other's strengths. Jacob Williams is still ascending the SWAC tackles rankings, and with his amazing dedication, he should finish at the top when the season is up.
