The Right Man For The Job

Once news broke that Head Coach Deion Sanders would take the head coach role at the University of Colorado, speculations began to swirl on who should be the next Head Coach at Jackson State. Many believe the illustrious HBCU needed another former NFL star to continue where Coach Prime left off. However, the perfect candidate was already on the coaching staff waiting for his opportunity. Without hesitation or second thoughts, TC Taylor has been named the 22nd Head Coach of the JSU football program. Coach TC Taylor has an in-depth knowledge of the JSU football program and the university as a former player. Already knowing the culture and atmosphere of a football program that has just won back-to-back South Western Athletic Conference championships plays big dividends and with his bevy of coaching experience, this team will still be a great team in the SWAC.

Head Coach TC Taylor's career has come full circle, having played quarterback and wide receiver at JSU before going on to play for the Detroit Lions and the New England Patriots. Countless sleepless nights and hard work as an assistant coach at Texas Southern University, Coahoma Community College, and North Carolina Central taught him invaluable lessons and shaped him into the outstanding coach he is today. His journey from the beginning to the present is proof that hard work pays off. The greatest concern, given Coach Prime's impending departure, is how the landscape of HBCUs will look without him.

"Deion was a great rocket, it is no different than a NASA spaceship. It needs that rocket to get off the ground, but at some point, the rocket falls off and it's on you where you take it from there," said Off script.

There is no denying that the SWAC and other HBCUs have some really gifted athletes, but with a strong foundation of Head Coaches like TC Taylor and many other outstanding coaches, the players may be guided toward having tremendous NFL futures. As Offscript suggested, it is up to decision-makers to keep this success train moving. As long as we have coaches like TC Taylor, the HBCU world will always be in good hands.
