The Return

This NBA offseason features a slew of free agents who have the potential to improve a team's fortunes of winning a championship. Lonzo Ball is the most intriguing free agent among them. Teams interested in the talented point guard include the Los Angeles Clippers, Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, and even the Los Angeles Lakers. What makes this all so fascinating is the possibility of Lonzo returning to the Lakers.

The Los Angeles Lakers selected Lonzo Ball with the second overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. Many people questioned how his jump-shot would translate from the college level to the NBA prior to this draft. Due to inconsistency and injuries, his rookie season was filled with ups and downs. Lonzo's second year in the league saw him grow, but he was unable to sustain it due to nagging injuries that cost him playing time on the court. His Lakers career ended quickly, as he was traded to the Pelicans that same summer.

People must also consider that he was under a lot of pressure to perform, being the second overall choice, playing in his hometown, and even backing up what his father, Lavar Ball, said to the media.

Lonzo Ball's overall game matured, which was a blessing in disguise. Working with Pelicans Coach Fred Vinson benefited Lonzo's shooting form and overall shooting. Lonzo was no longer afraid to shoot the ball because he had gained confidence. When combined with out-of-this-world playmaking abilities, everything began to fall into place for this young guard.

Now that everything is coming full circle, Lonzo Ball has the potential to contribute even more than he did during his first stint with the Lakers. The stars are aligning perfectly for Lonzo, who has previously played with LeBron and his amazing passing skills can set up Anthony Davis in many different ways. Only time will tell whether or not the Los Angeles Lakers will embrace the reunion this offseason.
