The New Normal

Following Deion Sanders' departure from Jackson State University for Colorado University, many were looking for the next NFL great to bestow their expertise and become a head coach at an HBCU. There was no need to seek any further; the answer was supplied when Hall of Famer Ed Reed was named the next head coach at Bethune-Cookman University. Ed Reed played with unequaled toughness, passion, and drive to win over his 12-year NFL career. Without a doubt, he brings all of these special traits—plus others—to his coaching career. Ed Reed, like Deion Sanders, was a once-in-a-lifetime athlete who will never be replicated. With that in mind, who wouldn't want to play for this incredible athlete who is eager to develop a successful program?

Ed Reed has gained a wealth of knowledge from his time as an assistant defensive back coach for the Buffalo Bills and as chief of staff for his alma mater, the University of Miami. This knowledge has prepared him very well for his new role at Bethune-Cookman. Following a 2-6 record last season, it was evident that this football program required someone to inject energy and lay a foundation for success. Coach Reed will undoubtedly bring a breath of fresh air to a program seeking to regain its former dominance in the early part of the decade. It was an excellent choice for Bethune-Cookman, and I expect great things to come from it in the near future.
