The Man With The Plan

To create a great football program, every facet must be in sync from top to bottom. Charles Nichols is in charge of ensuring everything is in place for the Texas Southern University football team to excel on Saturdays. As the Director of Football Operations, you frequently wear multiple hats and oversee a plethora of behind-the-scenes duties that most college football fans could never fathom. He is a vital part of the football squad, and, for want of a better description, he is as significant as the football itself, because there is no game without it. From organizing the team's travel plans to creating gameday itineraries, supporting Coach Mckinney, and occasionally assisting the players. These duties may seem daunting to some, but Mr.Nicholos enjoys every step of the process and, honestly, you can see he loves his job, and that passion for his craft translates over to this work, which is always a magnificent outcome.

Mr. Nichols was a superb educator before arriving on the TSU campus, with knowledge and teaching abilities that stretched over 20 years in both Texas and Kentucky. His resume is remarkable, having been named Teacher of the Year in three separate school districts. If you've ever been around him, you'll understand why he's been awarded the prestigious award so many times; he's not doing it for the money; he's doing it to affect and transform the lives of students and athletes. He even made it known that he lived by the old adage: In it for the outcome, not the income—no matter where he was positioned or employed. "Knowledge has power. It controls access to opportunity and advancement." Mr. Nichols has had the privilege of taking part in many endeavors that have provided him with knowledge and insight, which have helped him build a highly successful career. From teaching to becoming an Executive Assistant to Florida State Head Coach Willie Taggart, and even having a great football career for the Hilltopper Football team as a defensive back from 1992 to 1994, there is no doubt he is reaping the benefits of his dedication throughout the years. It is always inspiring to see someone with a journalism degree accomplish greatness. Mr. Nichols is a shining example that if you put in the necessary time and work, you will inevitably achieve your goals.
