Many people expected that the Texas Southern University football team would finish last in the SWAC West division and not win any games this season. They were sorely mistaken, as they won three games this season and showed supporters that they are well-positioned for the future. We all know that every great team begins with a brilliant quarterback, and TSU has that in the dual-threat Andrew Body. With top-ten finishes in passing and rushing, this young man has shown a lot in only his first season. This offense includes plenty of talented players poised to make a splash next season, including La'Darius Owens, Jyrin Johnson, Savion Sims, Kevin Harris, Dylan Hamilton, Jacorey Howard, and more. Of course, this superb defense is losing some of its top performers, but Head Coach Mckinney's excellent recruiting skills have placed some young guns on this squad who are ready for the moment.
For the most part, TSU had a good shot to win every game they played this season. They fell short due to turnovers, poor execution, and untimely mistakes. The good news is that all of these factors can be fine-tuned and fixed over the offseason. One thing about this football team is that they have heart, which is something that cannot be taught. Without a doubt, if this squad can correct their flaws from this season, they will make a significant impact in the 2022 season. Another thing to note is that the coaching staff appeared to become more at ease in their responsibilities this season, as they began to execute plays that TSU fans had not seen before. The future looks bright for the TSU football program, and don't be shocked if they climb the SWAC West standings next season.
