Tyler Martinez, a defensive tackle at Texas Southern University, is determined to establish a name for himself as one of the SWAC's elite this season. He's ready to take the next step after ranking in the top 25 in the SWAC in sacks and tackles. There is no question that if he works hard and is determined throughout fall camp, you will hear his name a lot more. Last season, his hard effort paid off as he was named Texas Southern's defensive Most Improved player. There is no better feeling than being acknowledged by your teammates and coaches, and I am confident that this will inspire him to reach for the stars this season.
When partnered with Demontario Anderson, Viramontes Pippins, Gabe Smith, and a slew of other players, Texas Southern may have one of the most productive defensive fronts in the South Western Athletic Conference. A strong defensive front puts pressure on the opposing team's quarterback and causes countless turnovers, allowing an explosive offense to score touchdowns. Tyler Martinez is up for the challenge, and all I can say is that TSU fans should get their popcorn ready because watching this defense execute at a high level will be a sight to behold. I pray Tyler has a fantastic season and displays to the entire SWAC Conference how gifted he is.
