JaVale McGee was made fun of at the beginning of his basketball career for his blunders on the court. Nobody is perfect, and it goes without saying that you will occasionally make mistakes as a basketball player. JaVale was made fun of for his faults, but he didn't let it stop him from playing the game he loves. Instead of allowing those unkind and hurtful statements to affect him, he utilized them as inspiration to improve constantly. There is no greater feeling than proving your doubters wrong, and JaVale has certainly did that by playing a crucial part on two championship squads, the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers. He has become a sought-after player due to his defense, rebounding, and unmatched tenacity in the latter stages of his career. JaVale not only has the ability to play at a high level when called upon, but he can also pump much-needed energy into a locker room.
If you play well, you'll get paid well. JaVale's significance to a franchise was acknowledged by several NBA teams this summer. The experienced big man inked a three-year, $20 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks. With all of the ups and downs JaVale has experienced throughout the course of his 14-year career, you can't help but smile and be happy for a man who has worked really hard to get to this point. His basketball career is undeniably aging like fine wine, and despite the ridicule he has endured, this incredible achievement could not have happened to a more deserving person. I hope JaVale continues to not only thrive, but also to show all those who laughed at him wrong.
