Homecoming Kings

It is extremely uncommon for a college football program to win three straight homecomings in a single season. Texas Southern University's football team defeated Arkansas Pine Bluff, Alcorn State, and Lincoln University (CA) to accomplish a record that few football teams can achieve: winning three homecomings. A 37-2 victory over Lincoln University on Saturday afternoon demonstrated that this group of elite football players is poised to rewrite the narrative of the OLD TSU by climbing to the second position in the SWAC West division and reaching a .500 winning percentage for the first time in a long time. Clarence McKinney, the team's head coach, deserves his flowers. He assembled this team one player at a time, disregarded the criticism, and has achieved some outstanding victories so far this season. In spite of the fact that many fans and sports experts believed that this team would finish last in the SWAC West division, each win has helped them convert critics into believers.

Having had the opportunity to see this football team throughout fall camp this summer, I can honestly say that they are only touching the surface of their full potential. With a remarkable defense that can compete with anyone and an offense that can run or pass at a high level, this football team will be a terrifying sight when everything comes together. What better opportunity to showcase the NEW TSU to the country and the entire South Western Conference than their upcoming game versus Jackson State? Since Coach Prime took over as head coach, Jackson State has been well ahead of everyone else in the SWAC. Having said that, most people have written off the TSU football team ahead of Saturday's game. But, if we've learned anything, TSU loves it when people count them out, and they're going to compete at a high level. The game on Saturday with TSU and Jackson State will be a battle between David and Goliath, and you already know the outcome if you have read the first book of Samuel in the Bible or heard the tale before.
