There is no finer feeling than coming home, and Darrell Colbert Sr. is well aware of this because he has been appointed head football coach at Beaumont United High School. Born and raised in Beaumont, Texas, he worked hard to become a remarkable football receiver. His time at West Brook High School was stellar, and he even played a significant role in helping the Bruin Bears win the 1982 state title. Winning a state championship in high school was only the tip of the iceberg for Coach Colbert, who shifted into a different gear once he stepped foot on the Texas Southern University campus. His resume essentially speaks for itself, as he was awarded SWAC Freshman of the Year in 1983, All-SWAC in 1984, 1985, and 1986, and was named Most Valuable Player in the inaugural Labor Day Classic versus Prairie A&M in 1985. His accomplishments confirmed his excellence; he holds the record for TSU’s all-time most receptions with 215 , accumulated 32 touchdowns and is second all-time in receiving yards with 3,177 yards.
In my perspective, you couldn't ask for a better head coach since he has played football at the highest levels, including the National Football League, the Canadian Football League, and the World League of American Football. He collected 1,247 yards and six touchdowns while playing for the Kansas City Chiefs (NFL), New Orleans Saints (NFL), British Columbia Lions (CFL), Edmonton Eskimos (CFL), and the San Antonio Riders (WLAF). Some may describe him as a walking football encyclopedia due to his endless years of experience. In addition to his outstanding football career, he has also had a number of coaching opportunities, including those at Westbury High School and Texas Southern University. One thing about Head Coach Colbert is that he strives to develop everyone of his players to their full potential both on and off the football field. He is without a doubt the man who can take this football team to the promised land in the near future with Beaumont United HS going up to Class 6A.
