“You make your mark by being true to who you are and letting that be your staple.” This quote itself embodied Midwestern State cornerback Robert “Tyree“ Grays. My dad always told me growing up you can never measure a person's heart, Robert played with tons of heart and his excellent play on the football field proved it. Size or height did not matter as Robert Grays made plays all over the field by returning kicks/punts and playing defense.
Former Hightower Head Coach Padriac McGinnis told Robert it was going to be virtually hard to land a football scholarship due to his size. This did not faze, scare, or intimidate him from reaching his ultimate goal of making it to the NFL. With the much-needed motivation, Robert did not disappoint as he posted 24 tackles, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 pass breakup in his freshman season.
Robert was much more than a football player, he was a great person on and off the football field. He was and still is an inspiration to many as well as myself. His legacy will live forever in the hearts and minds of everyone that came in contact with him. Robert parents Tammy and Robert Grays have set up a scholarship fund in his name. Let's keep his name a legacy alive forever 24 strong. Rest In Peace cousin, you will never be forgotten.
