The Olympics are in full swing, but all I can think about is how amazing Houston native Simone Biles is. Throughout her career, Biles has won 36 medals and set numerous gymnastics records. If you've ever seen Simone Biles in action, you'll notice that she executes every maneuver with ease, leaving you wondering how she accomplished it.
The bizarre part about it all is that Simone has maneuvers in her repertoire that are presently prohibited so that other gymnasts do not attempt them and injure themselves. To put it another way, imagine LeBron James performs a unique move on the basketball court; in order for others not to injure themselves, the NBA outright prohibits the move. That makes her one of the greatest gymnasts in my opinion because her skills are impossible to replicate.
Her resume is already impressive, and I don't understand why people are criticizing Simone for taking a break from the Olympics to care for her mental health. Aside from medals, your mental health is the most significant win of all. People are captivated by sports, but it is important to remember that athletes are human beings who go through the same experiences as the rest of us. I admire Simone Biles for taking this break and I pray that she overcomes this challenge and returns better than ever before.
